Custom Wood Accordion Shutter - FAQ's
Our selection is unbeatable! Our Series 140 and 220 doors fit maximum widths of 8' 0" and heights of 8' 1". Our Series 440 and 540 doors are available in any width and in heights to 10' 1". Our Series 240, 2100 and 3300 doors are available in any width and in heights up to 12' 1". All series of Vinyl Lam doors are available in finished opening heights to 12' 1", while hardwood doors are limited to 10' 1" in height
To assure correct sizing of your door, the finished opening must be measured precisely from side to side for width and from the header surface where the track will be attached to the finished floor or counter surface for height. When ordering, please first note the width first and then the height.
We need precise measurements to begin fabrication, so don’t deduct from your finish opening size. You may, however, specify a floor clearance other than the standard 5/8” if you prefer. (For Series 2100 and 3300 doors, specify exact finished opening size only.)
It’s relatively simple, since Our doors are top-suspended, without the need for floor tracks or clips.
Of course, complete installation instructions are provided with each door, but if you’d like a quick overview of how to install a Woodfold Accordion Door, click here.
Headers must span the entire opening without sagging,
since the folding door track must be plumb and level in order for the door to operate properly. Local building codes vary widely, so we recommend that you check into structural and design requirements for your area.
Under normal circumstances, we will repair or replace any door returned to us if:
Vinyl panel connectors crack or check
Rollers break
body panels delaminate
Fortunately, our unique continuous pin hinge hardware system virtually eliminates the two most vulnerable areas in most accordion doors – the outside fold and the roller system.
Our system, unlike most, prevents the vinyl panel connector used at the outside fold from cracking or checking. Our rollers also provide more durable performance, since rather than being fastened into the core of the body panel, the metal shank of the top roller system is riveted to the upper pin hinge hardware system. Our warranty does not cover installation repair, re-installation, labor or transportation, nor unfinished Accordion Doors.
Shipping time averages five to ten days from West Coast to East Coast, with additional transit time required for shipments to Alaska, Canada, Hawaii and other offshore destinations.
As you face the door, a stack left or left-hand door would be affixed (or “stacked”) to the wall jamb on your left. A stack right or right-hand door would be affixed to the right.
For curved installations, We utilizes an aluminum I-beam style track hanging from clips attached to the header. This configuration allows for on-site shaping to a minimum radius of 12”, enabling the door to follow the required path.
Our Series 140 and 240 closet doors are intended for use in openings where a utility-grade or unfinished back surface is acceptable. The handing, either stacked left or right, assures that the utility side will be oriented to the inside of the closet.
Aluminum hat channel is used for 2’ x 4’ acoustic drop in ceiling tile systems, allowing the contractor to pre-install a flange for the track and incorporate the hat channel into the ceiling grid system. The ceiling tiles actually rest on this flange.
When measuring for doors utilizing hat channel, the finished opening dimension should reflect the distance from the surface to which the hat channel attaches to the finished floor rather than from the finished surface of the acoustic ceiling.
Why the strange term? Hat channel looks like a top hat, hence the name.
Sliding jambs, commonly used for large doors which when stacked will occupy three or four feet of space, enable such doors to be stored in a protective pocket constructed on-site. A sliding jamb requires less lineal footage of folding door to be purchased.
Accordion doors that meet and split an opening are considered a pair. A standard pair would meet exactly in the middle – a 12’ pair, for example, would consist of two 6’ doors, one stacking left, the other stacking right. We can also craft uneven pairs – a 9’ door stacking left and a 3’ door stacking right in a 12’ opening.
When ordering a pair of doors, provide the total opening width and specify “pair.” You’ll receive a matched unit, one stacked right and one stacked left. Do not order separate right- and left-hand doors.
If a suspended ceiling system is being installed in conjunction with an Accordion Door, use of a recessed hat channel will simplify the job. If the ceiling is already in place, the most common practice is to place a finished 1” x 6” board on the underside, or room-side, of the ceiling and another board on the topside of the ceiling. Fastened together, these will form a sandwich of sorts, with the acoustic material in between. Drop wires or rods installed from above will support the door and plates, and the track can then be attached to the underside board. It’s important to note that finished opening dimensions will be affected, so measure carefully.
While some repairs are easily accomplished on-site, others may require specialized tooling available only at our factory. Should a repair ever be needed, we’d suggest that you contact us for specific advice.
Yes, but we strongly suggest that you specify a door crafted of our paint-grade MDF material. Better yet, since unfinished doors aren’t covered by warranty, have your door custom painted or stained by the experts at Woodfold. Our Vinyl Lam Accordion Doors are not suitable for on-site painting.
Our hardwood veneer Accordion Doors may, if lightly hand-sanded, be repainted or restained on-site, although extreme care must be taken not to get finishing materials on panel connectors or into saw kerfs. Our Vinyl Lam doors cannot be painted, and refinishing of any Woodfold Accordion Door will void its warranty.
Sorry, no, but for good reason. We craft our Vinyl Lam Accordion Doors with materials pre-applied by our panel supplier in order to ensure the highest quality lamination technology available. If you’re looking for multi-colored doors, we suggest you consider our custom paint or stain services.
Sorry, but every Woodfold Accordion Door is custom-made to size and cannot be returned. Besides, it’s highly unlikely you’d want to!
Our Series 140, 220 and 240 Accordion Doors can be shortened on-site, while Series 440, 540, 2100 and 3300 cannot. For details or instructions, contact us.
Depends on the door you order. Our Series 140 and 220 come standard with a magnetic catch. Our Series 240, 440, 2100 and 3300 feature a two-sided dead latch, with a one-sided latch or magnetic catch available at no cost. Key lock options are also available.
You bet. Our Adams-Wright lock system is compatible with most commercially available lock cylinders and can be keyed in the field by a qualified locksmith. We can also provide master and custom keying when we manufacture your door.
Two of our doors are sound rated – the Series 2100, which provides a minimum level of sound control at a very affordable price, and our Series 3300 door, offering mid-level sound control.
Woodfold doors are fabricated of Class I fire retardant medium density fiberboard. Note: this rating applies to the body panel core only and does not apply to the door as a unit.
In order to ensure proper stacking action, Our Accordion Doors are designed to fold with adjacent panels at a slight angle, depending on the fullness of the door within the opening.
No, Our doors are intended for interior applications only, since exposure to moisture or extreme temperatures may affect their operation and durability.
Our Series 240 Accordion Door is a popular choice, especially for high-use installations in restaurants, conference rooms and industrial settings. However, all of our Accordion Doors offer long-life durability, crafted with 4¼” x ¼” body panels and a super-strong steel hardware hinge system.
Since our Series 140 Accordion Door is intended for closet use, it has a utility grade or unfinished back. Series 220 and 240 doors are finished on both sides.
An intermediate rolling post serves several functions. It enables an extremely large door to be fabricated, shipped and installed in two sections, for easier handling. Constructed with an interlocking jamb molding, the intermediate rolling post enables two doors to be joined together to form a “T,” desired in some settings, and also adds stability and security for doors spanning larger openings.
Our track comes in 12’ lengths. For wider openings, multiple pieces of track for each door are connected with splice pins. Depending on the number of tracks required, they’re either packed within the door crate, or shipped separately.
To assure correct sizing of your accordion door the finished opening should be measured exact side to side dimension and exact height from header surface (where track attaches) to final finished floor or counter surface. This dimension should be stated width first and then height and should represent sizes after everything has been done to the opening that will ever be done to it.
